Dinosaurs are intriguing, right? My kids have always been interested in them and I totally get it. They are a fascinating subject to learn about and especially see. Dinosaurs are everywhere. There’s a whole movie series dedicated to them. We are members of our local museum which has HUGE replicas of dinosaurs. When reading, my youngest child’s first chapter book was Dinosaurs in the Dark. Those are just some examples of how dinosaurs are all around us even though they are extinct. Since my boys are already interested in this topic, they love to learn more about it. We recently had the opportunity to review the online class Dinosaurs and the Bible as well as the introductory video Taking the Mystery Out of Geology from Northwest Treasures.
What It Is:
Dinosaurs and the Bible is a 6 part class that lasts for 6 months with your purchase. The class is aimed to teach you about how the world of dinosaurs fits in with the Bible. Many people have questions about the history of dinosaurs and how that relates to the belief of Creation that Christians believe. Each lesson is a video on Vimeo and also has corresponding worksheets that your child can work through. At the end of all the lessons, there is a printable exam. These videos are recommended for ages 5th grade and up.
Here is the breakdown of classes:
- How We Got Our Modern View of Dinosaurs
- The Classification of Dinosaurs
- The Great Dinosaur Rush
- The Extinction of Dinosaurs
- Dinosaurs and the Ice Age
- Fossils, Age and Soft Tissue
You can also purchase a dinosaur fossil kit to accompany these lessons. This pack has sample fossils:
- Dinosaur bone from the Hell Creek Formation in Montana
- Spinosaurus Tooth from Morocco
- Spinosaurus bone from Morocco
- Dinosaur coprolite from Utah
- Hypacrosaur bone from Two Medicine Formation in Montana
- Fossil Turtle Shell from Florida
Along with the above video lessons, we received an extra resource called Taking the Mystery Out of Geology. My boys both LOVE rocks too. Their GiGi got them interested in rocks and crystals when they were really little. We have a ton of crystals at our house as well as a great assortment of rocks from different rivers we’ve been to. Taking the Mystery Out of Geology is a 20 minute video that introduces 13 geology terms from a Biblical perspective. This is a great place to start as it gives you some insight into the other lessons you will go through. This is a 3 month subscription with purchase. Since we are rock lovers, we are really interested in trying one of the kids from Northwest Treasures. The Fluorescent Arizona kit looks so cool! This kit includes:
- Book on the fluorescence of Arizona
- Short-wave lamp with batteries
- 15 fluorescent specimens from Arizona
Northwest Treasure really has so many great things to purchase. If you are looking to enhance your science curriculum, you should really check it out!
